  Dear Golf Mentor,

The Women’s Kentucky State Golf association is dedicated to fostering the growth of junior golf in the state of Kentucky. As a golf mentor, you are in a position to know of deserving young girls who would be eligible for the WKSGA Dorothy Waters Junior Girl’s Golf Award.

Each June, at the annual WKSGA State Amateur Tournament, the Dorothy Waters Award is presented to a deserving young lady. Last year, there were four awards. The 2007 winner was Candice Wiley. Runner-ups were: Betsie Johnson, Emily Bachert and April Emerson. Each of these girls was eligible for monetary reimbursements of expenses incurred in extra-curricular golf tournaments.

The WKSGA would appreciate your reviewing the enclosed information that includes the guidelines for nominations and an application. Please feel free to duplicate the application if you are aware of more than one qualified young lady. In order to recognize the award recipient (s) at the annual WKSGA banquet in June, the dead line for nominations is May 31, 2008. Please make your girl golfers aware that the WKSGA State Amateur Tournament is to be played at Elizabethtown Country Club in Elizabethtown the week of June 23. We encourage applicants to play in this tournament.

Application forms are to be completed by the nominee. Each nominee must also submit a 150 to 200 word essay on why she feels she meets the criteria of integrity, honor, and sportsmanship. Each complete application, the essay, and a letter of reference from a coach, golf pro, or instructor (parents are excluded from sending reference) are to be sent to the address at the bottom of the application form.

Thank you in advance for assisting the Women’s Kentucky State Golf Association’s effort to promote and encourage girls to participate in junior golf programs.

Sincerely yours,
Nancy Ragland
Junior Golf Committee
