BETTER BALL TOURNAMENT

The Women's Kentucky State Golf Association will host the fourth annual Better Ball Tournament on Sunday, June 24 during the practice round for the State Amateur Championship. The purpose of the Better Ball Tournament is to raise money for the Kentucky Golf Foundation - specifically for the new Kentucky Golf House. The Golf House is the home for the KGA-PGA administrative offices and the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame.

Cost: $10 per person / $20 per team to be paid with entry fee.

GAME & RULES : Low Gross and Low Net Prizes will be awarded using 1/4 of combined handicap for low net calculation.

  • Open to all participants in the State Amateur Championship.
  • Open to non-participants who have an up-to-date handicap index (please send a copy).
  • If you do not have a partner and you want to play in this tournament, let Judy Lyle know when you send in your entry and she may be able to pair you with another person.
  • The teeing ground will be from the white WKSGA tee markers - EXCEPT – non-WKSGA tournament participants play from the teeing ground where they would normally establish their handicap.
  • The ball must be played down everywhere.
  • Since this is a tournament within a practice round - for the tournament, use the first ball hit only. That is, if you wish to hit another ball for practice, you cannot record that ball. HONOR SYSTEM!
  • Record gross score for each player on each hole on the Better Ball Scorecard provided.
  • Scorecard must be signed by both players and dated. Turn in cards to the pro shop after the conclusion of your round
  • Better Ball Tournament committee will go over scorecards and determine winners. In the event of a tie, there will be a scorecard playoff.
  • Winners will be announced at the Tuesday, June 26 Business Meeting.
  • In the event of a rain out - names of the players will be put in a hat and drawn for the prizes. The money will not be refunded.

W.K.S.G.A. Banquet & Business Meeting

This year, we will again hold our Annual Business Meeting in conjunction with the Banquet and Awards Ceremony. The Board strongly feels that all players should be present at this event. It is a time to find out how the Association works and a time to thank our host and honor the players. We recognize that some players and their families will be commuting - however, the player should make arrangements to be present at the meeting!

W.K.S.G.A Regulations

  • Every player must have a current active U.S.G.A GHIN handicap card from a member club. Current is defined as at least 5 scores posted within the last year. Juniors are eligible for free GHIN cards...there is no reason not to have a handicap card! If you have questions regarding the handicap card and how to obtain one, please see your club pro or contact the Kentucky Golf Association.
  • The tournament will be conducted under U.S.G.A. rules with such exceptions as the Tournament Committee may announce.
  • Pairings and starting times will be mailed to all contestants approximately one week prior to the tournament. If we have participants who withdraw, the pairings and starting times may change. Make sure to check the starting tee time form when you register for the tournament on Sunday the 18th.
  • The Championship Flight will consist of the 31 low qualifiers and the defending Champion or the 32 low qualifiers in the event the defending Champion is not entered.
  • Ties for the last place in the Championship Flight shall be played off, hole by hole. Players thus tied must be available for play at the time of the play-off or forfeit their right to the upper flight. Ties for the last place in other flights will be determined by U.S.G.A. rules.
  • Ties for Medalist will receive duplicate prizes.
  • Contestants who are late for their starting times shall be penalized according to U.S.G.A. rules.
  • Once a contestant has been paired for match play, she is required to play all matches until eliminated unless withdrawal is approved by the Board of Directors. Non-compliance with this rule will result in a one-year ban from State Tournament participation.
  • Pace of Play will be strictly enforced. Players who choose to walk will be expected to keep pace of play with others in their group! For rulings on any questions, consult the U.S.G.A. Rules or members of the Rules Committee.

CADDIES

Contestants with caddies - Please specify that you will have a caddie on the entry form. Make sure that you introduce your caddie to the players in your group. If you have any questions regarding use of a caddie or etiquette - please see a Board member or a rules official.

Carts will be available for caddies this year. In order to reserve a cart for the first 3 days of play - the caddie cart fee must be prepaid. Send this money in as part of the entry. (See entry form)

DRESS CODE
